First Day Linky

I am joining Teaching Joys for her

On our first day of school, we always read The Kissing Hand
and trace the students hand onto a piece of paper with The Kissing Hand poem found below. We have the students color in his or her hand print and place a heart in the middle of the hand.

The Kissing Hand

It's my first day of Kindergarten
And I'm thinking of you.
I made these precious handprints
So you will think of me, too.

It's my first day of school
And "The Kissing Hand" is what we read.
It's about a raccoon
Who did just as his parents said.

Like the raccoon's first day at school
I was scared and a little shy.
But because of what you said
I was brave and I got by.

All through the year
I'll make more things for you.
So as I change and as I learn
You can witness my growth, too!

One of my personal teacher favorites to read is
There are lots of activities that you could do along with this story but since I teach Pre-K we just talk about the emotions that we feel and the emotions of the character in the story.

I also have had the intentions of making the cute picture frame seen on pinterest to take my students pictures with the first day!Well after working hard today...here it is. I am so excited and love it!

Be sure to link up with your first day activities and help all of the new teachers brainstorm ideas!!

Monday Made It

I have enjoyed looking at all of the various Monday Made It crafts and ideas for the past few weeks so I decided to join in on the fun. I am linking up with Tara over at 4th Grade Frolics. I have created several projects but will only share a few of them. Of course, they were all pinterest inspired. I am sorry about the quality of the pictures. I took them with my cell phone when my camera was MIA.

I was tired of seeing UGLY boxes around my room holding materials so I decided to buy a couple of crates. However, these still were not cute to me. So I went on a hunt through my supplies and now they fit into the theme of my classroom much better.

Here are a few clipboards like everyone else is doing!

I also made a toolbox. I bought it at Lowes and spray painted it black. I used zebra scrapbook paper for the background and regular address labels to label each drawer. I love the way it turned out!

Now to some of the functional things for my classroom.
I created a calendar that I shared as a freebie last week. If you would like to have a copy simply click on the picture above to download it.

I also created a calendar number set with Leopard to go along with my Jungle theme. If you would like  a copy of them you can download by clicking the picture.

I helped my Daddy recover an office chair but I do not have any pictures of it. But we made great memories working together like we did when I was a little girl.

Be sure to check out all the creative things that other people are making. Thanks for stopping by!
